Care homes braced for National Care Homes Week

Care homes in your region have pledged their support for a groundbreaking event aimed at showcasing quality social care.

From 2- 6 June 2008, care homes across the country will celebrate National Care Homes Week.

The pioneering event spearheaded by leading social care magazine, Caring Business, aims to promote excellence in the sector.

Throughout the week, care homes will champion and raise awareness of the sector by highlighting the work of dedicated staff and the lives and activities of those in their care.

Care homes are also being urged to hold parties, throw open their doors to the public and invite their MP to visit their premises to celebrate National Care Homes Week.

The event has already been endorsed by the Government and other leading associations. Care services minister Ivan Lewis will launch the week with a keynote speech in London on June 2.

Pledging his support, he said: ‘National Care Homes Week is a fantastic idea for bringing attention to today’s care home. This week will highlight the amount of time, care and consideration, which goes into not only the people who occupy the homes, but also the facilities used by each establishment.’

Editor of Caring Business, Olufunmi Majekodunmi, believes the week will play a key part in promoting the work of the sector. ‘All too often, care homes are portrayed in a negative light, but the majority of care homes provide a great service in looking after vulnerable people up and down the country.’
